Police nab four over alleged rape in Akwa Ibom

A 24-year-old man, Ajom Brimcewil Tabi, who allegedly abducted a 13-year-old girl, Favour Ikechukwu, and his friends have been arrested for raping her to death while in his custody in Ejigbo area of Lagos.

The police said the suspect along with two others, now at large, gangraped the teenage girl in a room and left her to bleed to death.

The police said while Tabi is being detained at the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Panti Street Yaba, efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing members of the gang.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, told our Correspondent that the suspect would soon be charged with murder.

Adejobi said the unfortunate incident occurred on September 30, 2020. He said around 10.30pm, the said Favour, who was sent on an errand by her mother.

He said the deceased was asked to buy a carton of Gala by her mother at Olanrewaju street, Ejigbo but that she raised alarm when she waited for hours and could not find her daughter.

“A search party was raised to look for her, till when her father came back from work and himself started looking for the girl.

“Later information got to them that a girl had been raped to death at No.4, Olanrewaju street Ejigbo.

“On getting there, the body of Favour Okechukwu was found dead in a room that belongs to one Ajom Brimcewil Tabi at No.4, Olanrewaju street, Ejigbo, Lagos.

“The body was found stark naked with blood flowing out of her private part. The said Brimcewil Tabi has been arrested and detained,” he said.

The Lagos Police Spokesman further said on hearing the incident the commissioner of police Lagos ordered for thorough Investigation into the case.

He said the CP condemned such barbaric act, and vowed to fight rape, defilement and other crimes headlong in Lagos state.
