A ghastly road accident involving a truck and a mini bus in Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra State, has claimed one life, while four other passengers sustained varying degrees of injury.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Public Education Officer in Anambra State, Kamal Musa, on Saturday, confirmed that the accident occurred late on Friday.
According to Musa, a brown Mack truck, with registration number XX 837 JJD, crashed into a yellow Daihatsu Hijet bus without a registration number, besides Toronto Hospital along Asaba-Onitsha Expressway.
According to him, eye witnesses said the crash was caused when the truck had a break failure, leading to loss of control by the driver, who then crashed the vehicle into the Hijet mini bus, dragging it into drainage.
He stated that in the accident which involved six male adults, while one of them died on the spot, four sustained varying degrees of injuries and were taken to Toronto Hospital by FRSC team from Upper Iweka.
The body of the man had been deposited in the morgue after being confirmed dead.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Andrew A. Kumapayi, while condoling with the family of the deceased, wished the injured victims quick recovery.
He advised motorists to always inspect their vehicles before embarking on any trip.
