The Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) in Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, was on Friday reportedly gutted by fire.
Confirming the fire outbreak, General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu said the fire was caused by a power surge from an air conditioner in the bank, adding that no casualties were recorded.
Oke-Osanyintolu also add that the agency activated its team at 7:49am this morning in response to distress calls concerning the fire outbreak.
He said, “The Agency activated its team around 7:49am this morning in response to the distress calls concerning a fire outbreak at GTbank, in Amuwo Odofin.
“Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, information gathered by the LRU Fire Team indicated that the flames observed at the top of the bank building were as a result of a power surge from one of the air conditioners in the office.
“The combined response of the agency’s firefighters and the Lagos Fire Service prevented the fire from spreading to other units of the bank and adjourning buildings.
“No casualties or fatalities recorded at the scene.
“Post-disaster assessment was conducted to make sure there is no re-ignition of the fire. The operation has been concluded.”
