Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Uzoho Joins Cypriot Club APOEL On Three-Year Contract

Nigeria goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has joined Cypriot top club APOEL on a three-year contract.

Uzoho joined APOEL from Spanish club Deportivo La Coruna.

The 21-year-old previously spent time on loan at Cypriot top flight clubs Anorthosis Famagusta and Omonia Nicosia.

Uzoho seeks to rebuild his career as football leagues across Europe continue to resume after the Covid-19 lockdown.

Uzoho was in goal for Nigeria in all three games at the 2018 FIFA World Cup but lost his place to Daniel Akpeyi during the 2019 AFCON finals in Egypt.

He made his first-team La Liga debut against 0–0 SD Eibar, but lack of opportunities saw him moved to the Segunda División side Elche CF for one year loan, before leaving for Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta in 2019.

The Nigerian goalkeeper penned down an emotional farewell to Deportivo La Coruna after completing his move to Cypriot club APOEL.

“I want to thank this great club for helping me achieve my dreams of being a professional goalkeeper. Thank you and good luck,” Uzoho wrote on his Twitter handle.

Uzoho joined Deportivo La Coruna from Aspire Academy in 2017.

He made just two league appearances for the first team.
