A man who chose to offer a hamster to his girlfriend for Valentine’s Day paid a heavy price for his mistake: she assaulted him with the rodent and forced him to eat it.
A 33-year old Dave Morris invited his girlfriend, 31-year old Angela Garrison, to his residence in Boca Raton, Florida, to celebrate their romance on this day dedicated to love.
The young man had planned a romantic candlelight dinner and everything seemed to go as planned for the first few hours.
But at some point during the evening, Mr. Morris presented his girlfriend with a rather unusual present: a hamster named Cupid and dressed in a tiny cherub costume.
According to Mr. Morris’ roommate Jason Monroe, who witnessed the scene, Ms. Garrison reacted extremely violently to the undesired gift.
“She just grabbed the hamster and started beating him with it. He fell on his back, surprised, so she sat on him and started trying to push the squealing animal in his mouth.”
Mr. Monroe tried to help his friend and roommate but was unable to stop the infuriated woman, so he finally called 911.
“She was totally mad. She literally roared at me and threw me in the air with a single hand. It’s as if she was possessed, it was scary as hell.”
Officers of the Bocan Raton Police Department arrived on the site within a few minutes and were able to neutralize Ms. Garrison and help her boyfriend take the now dead rodent out of his mouth.
Angela Garrison faces a total of 17 criminal charges, including animal cruelty, assault and battery, and attempted murder.
If found guilty on all charges, she faces a sentence of life in prison with a minimum of 65 years, as well as a fine of $115,000.
Since she has violated her bail conditions twice in the past, Ms. Garrison was denied bail and will remain detained until the beginning of her trial, set to begin in March.
