I heard Nigerian billionaire, Emeka Okonkwo popularly known as Emoney posted a ‘crying baby’ shot video pleading that people should stop ‘begging for money from him’.
Emoney should stop giving ‘free’ money to those who have a source of income. They are not poor and do not need your benevolence #helptherightpeople pic.twitter.com/SZciLLh8Uz

Well, poverty has brought such sad realities to Nigerians. It is the burden rich ‘good’ Africans must bear in a hungry society like Africa. West Africa and Central Africa seem to be most hit by poverty. Nigeria is a case study, the homeland of the richest Africans.
Massive poverty and begging is an offshoot of a depressed economy. Let’s leave the government alone on this so we can focus on the issue at hand…Begging.
If you’re poor and need support please beg those who can help you, those that can teach you how to ‘fish’. If you’re wealthy, learn to teach others how to ‘fish’ and not only give them a ‘tiny piece of fish’ to eat for the day when you can afford to buy them a fishing net.
The poverty mentality has eaten so deep that some people forgot they have escaped it thus they remain beggars. I love Nigerian comedians more than any other sect of entertainers but this is one thing I hate about some of them. An act that is gradually becoming shameful and which I think the veterans in the industry should address. You are called to ‘crack jokes’ at a comedy show and not to beg for arms.
Yes, if anyone sees the need to bless you with money for your thrilling jokes, that’s your reward but don’t use indirect ways or direct approach to soliciting for money from show attendees. Comedians should stop begging for money. You can’t be rich or claim to be rich and still beg. What then do you expect from people on the streets who are yet to have a meaningful source of income? And who sometimes beg you and you shame them rather than help them.
Emoney should stop giving ‘free’ money to those who have a source of income. They are not poor and do not need your benevolence. If what they bring to the table is not a business proposal that is profitable and which you chose to invest in, then don’t give them free money especially out of subtle coercion.
Comedians know it’ll be hard for the rich man to say ‘no’ in front of a crowd, so the subtly coerce them to make promises or give them money instantly. It is bad, It is a wrong move which must stop. You don’t see Kelvin Heart begging for arms on a comedy stage..do you? Your audience appreciates you, that’s why they paid their hard-earned money to attend the comedy show. Why subject them to more forceful given by asking for more money? ‘You be glutton abi poverty don sign babiyanla for your body?
I believe it’s time the veterans in the comedy industry address the issue and caution those doing the same. Yes, culprits will no doubt come up with a defence for their acts but this is not about you, its about sanitizing the system and directing support where it suits.
Emoney and all other wealthy Nigerians please channel giving (charitable works) to Nigerians who are struggling to establish their source of livelihood. You already know the government has failed to make provisions for financial support to these talents that have great ideas. So, support them with capital to grow rather than give it to those who are already made.
Don’t give @akpororo and co millions and give a street kid who has business ideas that will make him successful only #50,000 to go in peace. That is a wrong way to exercise your charity. Take a chance at people by investing in those with ideas to make more wealthy people like you. That way your charity will yield a bountiful harvest. And you’ll have no cause to feel drained.
