Without Social Media Bill passage, Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage quizzed by DSS over 'social posts'

Music Executive, Ace Nigerian producer, Don Jazzy and his former label artiste, Tiwa Savage have reportedly landed in DSS custody for quizzing over alleged political utterances against President Buhari’s Government on social media.

WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that a lot of Nigerians including celebrities earlier rejected a Social Media Bill sponsored by a lawmaker in Senate after passing it’s second reading. Majority worried that freedom of speech will be buried in Nigeria and hence the outrage from every corner of the nation which eventually stalled the passage of the controversial bill.

According to Sahara Reporters, Don Jazzy and Tiwa Savage were forced to lower their voices on social media after they were quizzed by the Department of State Security Service, DSS, and police in Lagos following the duo’s participation in a protest against sexual assault cases across Nigeria especially against women.

WITHIN NIGERIA learnt that Tiwa Savage had began a movement known as “WeAreTired” in protest of the situation. Through the movement, the musician called on Buhari’s administration to take action to stem the tide of rape in the country. This in addition to several posts on social media calling on the government to live up to its responsibilities to Nigerians earned Tiwa Savage an invitation by the DSS. Together with Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage was invited to the DSS office in Lagos two weeks ago during which they were warned to be careful with their posts on the social media.

Two other celebrities, female musicians, Yemi Alade and Waje were also summoned by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, recently. They were reportedly warned to steer clear of political comments in order not to incur the wrath of the President Buhari administration.

Confirming their invitation, a member of Tiwa Savage’s management team, who confirmed the development with the popular online news medium, said that the celebrated female artiste will not stop speaking for Nigerians regardless of any move by governnent.
