Several police officers escaped death by whisker with bullet wounds and one police corporal was reportedly shot dead after gunmen invaded a police station at Ikolaba area of Ibadan, Oyo state capital, on Friday.
The deceased was among the officers on duty when the attackers struck.
The gunmen after killing the policeman started ‘shopping’ for ammunition as they ransacked whole station and made away with some weapons.
Gbenga Fadyei, police public relations officer in the state, confirmed the incident but did not give details.
He said policemen had been deployed in the area and normalcy has been restored.
It is not clear those who launched the attack but Fadeyi said investigation is ongoing.
The attack happened at a time when efforts are being put in place to check the rising insecurity across the country.
